Hawaii Pacific Solar is a joint venture partner in South Maui Renewable Resources (SMRR) and has teamed with Haleakala Energy Associates, Power Engineers and ECM, Inc. in the design, engineering and development of a hybrid renewable energy system. This is a firm PV based system tied to  micro turbine generators and battery backup to develop a uniquehybrid system. The first facility is planned for a 35 acre site in South Maui with a total energy production of 2.85 megawatts of firm power.

SMRR members sit on the Reliability Standards Working Group established by the Public Utilities Commission to assist in determining technical standards for large scale photovoltaic projects.
